Outline pens draw two lines at once: a coloured centre with a darker edge, so a single stroke comes out looking like it was done twice. Children work out very quickly that this makes titles, name labels and project headings look finished with no extra effort, which is usually enough to get a school notebook opened voluntarily. Eight colours covers most of what a project needs. The plastic barrels are slim enough for a pencil case and the caps click shut properly, which matters when they are living loose in a school bag.
